School of the environment and safety engineering (SESE) currently holds the first-level Discipline as well as a Post-doctoral Research Station that has been recognized by Ministry of Education in China for Doctoral and Master degree Programmes in the areas of Environmental Science and Engineering. In addition, the first-level Discipline for the Master Degree Programme in Safety Science and Engineering is also recognized. Other professional Degrees for various Master Programs regarding Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering and Mining Engineering are currently available. For undergraduate programs, School of the Environment and Safety Engineering has three undergraduate degrees that include Environmental Engineering, Environmental Protection Equipment Engineering and Safety Engineering. At present, there are about 600 undergraduate students and 200 doctoral and master graduate students (including 4 international students) registered in this School.
At present, SESE employs 98 faculty and staff, including 17 full professors, 35 associate professors, where 14 Ph.D. supervisors and 50 master's supervisors are recognized. Among them, one academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, one expert of “National Thousand Talents program (Enterprise)”，one scholar of New Century Excellent Talents (Ministry of Education), one expert who received special government allowance from the State Council, seven faculty recognized and supported by Jiangsu Provincial Government (including innovation and entrepreneurship program, and 333 project and six-talent-peak program), and three distinguished professors of Jiangsu University. The SESE also has one innovation team and one Jiangsu Overseas Chinese Base for innovation and Entrepreneurship recognized by Jiangsu local government. With over ten year efforts, five unique scientific research teams were established in this school that includes Environmental Toxicology & Chemistry, Environmental Ecology and Restoration, Contamination Control Engineering and Equipment, Biomass Resource and its Recycling, Reusing, and Recovering, and Safety Science and Engineering.
To date, the SESE was granted over 50 national projects, including Nation Major Science and Technology Programs for water pollution control and treatment (11th five-year-plan), Chinese High-Tech Programs (863 Project), National Natural Science Foundation of China, etc. We were also financially supported for over 70 research projects by different nation ministries and local provincial government. In recent years, we have been awarded over 10 ministerial or provincial awards for Sci-Tech achievements as well as over 80 nation patents. Besides, our faculty and professionals have accomplished a series of scientific advancements that attracted worldwide attentions as well as over 1000 peer-reviewed scientific papers (more than 500 publications to be cited by EI or SCI).
